i’ll be going to study in uk for 3 months. knowing that this might my last chance visiting europe i wanna visit as many places as possible. please advise.
from uk – belguim – netherland – germany – switzerland – austria – italy – spain – france – uk
eurorail the best way to go about? recommendation for hostels? nothing like the movie “hostel” please.
anything / anywhere not to be missed? i want this to be a no regret trip :)
I think you’ll get more hostel recommendations if you list specific cities.
Eurail is pretty good for getting around but you can also look into cheap flights to the farther-away places through cheap carriers like Ryan Air or German Wings.
If you haven’t already looked into it, both Easy Jet and Ryan Air might be alternatives to Eurail (or you can get a three country saver pass with Eurail and combine it with EasyJet/Ryan Air flights)
Also for hostel hunting I like venere.com and there’s also bookings.org. Both these sites are useful for their “reviews” sections. The traveller comments offer detailed insights that the hostel websites might not.
good luck!
better yet, check whichbudget.com
eurail probably will not be very good for you- first, UK to Belgium will only give you discount, you still have to pay;
second, you have to pay for reservations, sometimes as much as 20 euros but at least 3
third, countries in the South of Europe (Italy, Spain) as well as Germany are relatively cheap when it comes to trains, you will not save much, it would make more sense if you travelled in Scandinavia- Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland- you’d really save there.
If you’re planning on stopping in Rome, I highly reccommend The Beehive hostel. 20 Euro a night, clean, free internet, awesome people.
I think in three whole months WITHOUT studying you wouldn’t even be able to really see all of those countries. i mean, going to barcelona doesn’t mean you’ve ‘done spain’. so what i’d recommend is choosing some specific cities and going from there with your research and questions. it’s unrealistic to assume you’d be able to ‘not miss anything’. seriously.
I saw that a few people recommended ryan air, but i’d say be careful with it. it’s hard to get in touch with the company once you purchase your tickets AND a lot of their ports are millleeeessss out of the city they say they are in. easy jet is supposed to be more reliable.
