Hi everyone, I’ll be travelling to Georgia (Caucasus region) this summer by way of London and Munich. As an American, my cell phone won’t work there, and I won’t be able to buy a phone in Georgia for the duration of my stay as I’ve done in previous years when I’ve spent time in Italy. I could just stay out of contact for a month, but it would be nicer to be able to receive calls. Someone told me to bring my American phone and switch out the SIM card in Europe, but I was under the impression that this was damn near impossible to do on an American phone. Am I wrong? It’s something I’ve never looked into before, so I’m unsure of how it would work.
I’m hoping to be in Munich (maybe Vienna, but more likely Munich) for a day or two before going to Georgia, so this would be the best place for me to do the switch (assuming I find someone who speaks enough English, as I speak no German). I could also spend a day in London instead and do the switch in the UK, though I can’t imagine this would be advantageous.
So, I know this is a bizarre question, but does anyone have any ideas on how I could have an active cell while in Georgia? I’ll be in a rural area with very little electricity – buying the phone where I’m staying is out of the question, and I likely won’t have any dedicated time in a major city for a week or two – halfway through my trip. Which is why I’m hoping to take care of this before I arrive.
Thanks!
