Has anyone been or lived in Krakow? What is the best way to get from Krakow to Auschwitz? How long does it take to get there? Any help will be great….8 months and counting til I go to Eastern Europe for a month….I am trying to get the details of day trips taken care of! Also if anyone lives in Warsaw, Krakow, Prague, Vienna, or Budapest and know of a great Tattoo shop, let me know I am thinking of adding to my body art!
Thanks!
There is a bus from the Krakow train/bus station that goes to Auschwitz. I think it’s every hour, and it takes 40 mins to an hour to get there, plus a 20 min walk, as far as I recall… I think it was 12 zlotys but I would really have to dig out the tickets to confirm.
Just remember one thing – don’t take the last bus back and the number one comment about visiting – get the self-guided tour and don’t bother with the guided tour. The bus is not always there which will result in a costly cab ride. If you want to take some time to absorb your surroundings you’ll find the tour to be problematic. Shuttles run on the hour.
I would love to see it in the winter. I lived there from April – August so that wasn’t an option. Seems a bit more appropriate than sunshine and green grass in the summer.
i agree. i was there in june and it was eerie that it was so sunny and bright. just didn’t seem right.
there are buses that leave from the main bus station that take you straight to the front door. thats the cheapest and best option. i can’t remember the details now.. but any tourist place or hostel/hotel will have detailed info for you!
!!! Eastern Europe is the BOMB! Your going to have a ball!!
Krakow, PRAGUE, BUDAPEST! AH! I wish I was there again! Have a blast!!
There are at least 6 trains a day from Cracow to Auschwitz, it takes 1:22 hour to get there and the tickets shouldn’t be expensive (the itinerary is online at rozklad.pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en? , you have to write “Krakow Glowny” and “Oswiecim” which are Polish names for Cracow and Auschwitz).
I got a tattoo in Budapest. It’s called like Poppy Tattoo or something. They did a good job.
