Netherlands – things to see/visit?

Hello,

I’m planning a 10-day trip to the Netherlands in 2 weeks and I’d like some ideas on things to see or places to visit.

For background, this is my 5th trip to this country, and I have already visited:

- towns: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Nijmegen, Enschede, Delft, other small towns in Eindhoven area.
- touristy places: Keukenhof, Efteling, Drielandenpunt (place in south-west where Netherlands, Belgium and Germany meet), Zaanse Schans (windmill village North of Amsterdam), mobile dam in Rotterdam harbour, Baarle-Hertog (town in the South, split between Netherlands and Belgium), castles in Eindhoven area, Madurodam (‘mini-Holland’ park).

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance :)

well you haven’t been to den haag or maastricht yet so you could check those out. however they’re only really good for a day each.

the escher museum in den haag is really really neat though, go there.

depending on how old you are… there’s an awesome water park just outside of den haag too (duinrell.nl/duinrell_en/). the water park is indoors and open all year round and i really enjoyed it.

you could go to kinderdijk, near rotterdam to see lots and lots of old windmills. it’s really scenic.

plus maybe you’ll be here at the right time to see the blooming tulip fields in the north. i can’t wait for that.

oh and there’s groningen in friesland, you could check out that part of the country. maybe go for a sail and speak with some frisians.

Excellent ideas, thanks a lot! :)

I’ll surely go to the tulip fields and Keukenhof again, it’s the main reason I’m visiting at the end of April :) Did it last year and I was completely in love with the scenery!

I think I’ll leave Friesland for a future visit.. Right now I have to run and buy a swimsuit ;)

A second vote for Groningen. Not sure about the specifics of the law, but I believe that it’s the only city in the Netherlands that allows non-private bars/clubs to have a 24-hour alcohol license. This might not be a major consideration for you, ;) but combined with the fact that Groningen is a student/university city it means that it’s actually quite a lively place. A better place to be than Amsterdam at 3 AM, anyway, when Amsterdam is strangely (for those who just go by its reputation) lifeless.

I studying abroad in Groningen! best little city ever. there over 160 clubs, bars and resterants. most of the population is college students. utrecht is another nice city. It’s more of a day city though.
