Ireland to Italy to Greece and then home again

I’m living in Ireland at the moment, and I’m planning a trip for May to Italy, and from Italy I want to travel down and hit some cool cities and hope over to Greece (hitting Athens, Delphi, and ultimately Santorini). Any tips for an itinerary? Tips on the best way to travel (cheaply!) through Italy and then to Greece? I think I’m going to fly ryanair from Ireland to Milan, but from there I’m unsure the best way to travel. I will be backpacking/hosteling/camping so if anyone has any suggestions on good hostels in any choice cities (suggestions on where to visit?) along the way, I’d love to hear them!

Also, best (cheapest) way to fly Greece home to Ireland?

I have an international student ID card too, so anything I can use that on would be brillant.
