I posted before about a big trip through Western Europe and some other places (planned countries are Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Germany, Holland, then up to Denmark and the UK) and I wanted some more input on methods of transportation. I know people always ask this question, but I’m really re-considering the Eurail pass. I haven’t bought one, wasn’t even planning on it actually, mostly because my European friends have specifically said that transportation throughout parts of Europe are often cheaper if you do local options versus the Eurail. For instance, a combination of trains, planes and autombiles instead of just the Eurail pass.
Now, can anybody give me their opinion on this? The Eurail pass looks super expensive, especially for how many countries we would need it for, and it seems to me that for the most part, flying is almost always the cheapest method (Ryan Air has ridiculous deals!). Also, I’ve heard that other regional train systems offer much better deals. I’m just wondering if I will get to Europe and regret not purchasing the Eurail pass, especially since I hear it’s not valid for the country you purchase it in?
Any input is much appreciated!
