I know winter is not the most popular time to spend a vacation in Europe, but I have to be there to join a friend’s birthday spree in Paris, first week of January. I need ideas on what to do during that season. I was planning on doing something significant like attending Christmas Mass at the Vatican. I intend to be in Europe from around Dec. 22- Jan 10. Any ideas on what’s a good thing to do? I’d most likely be travelling alone most of the time, so I need your ideas to warm up my holidays. Thanks.

My wife & parents & I spent this last Christmas/New Year’s in Paris and Strasbourg. If you want to do something quintessentially “Europe”, check out some of the Christmas Markets. The big ones are in Strasbourg & Nuremburg, but most German cities of size have *something* going on. They’re touristy, they’re crowded, but hey; hot mulled wine & street food…how can you go wrong? :)
Thanks for the idea. I’m checking out internet sites on Strasbourg now. :-)
If you go to Strasbourg, definitely look into the Hotel Suisse (hotel-suisse.com/). It’s an affordable two-star about a block from the cathedral in the center of town. It was the best bargain of the trip.
