Wow, searching through the tags of this community has already answered several of my questions! Useful place.
I’m going to be in Italy the first half of September. My companion wants to go swimming in the Mediterranean, so we’re looking for a nice beach, not too crowded, either between Rome and Naples, or in the vicinity of Naples. We’ve heard that the beaches at Naples itself are to be avoided.
This can either be a day trip (by bus or train–we’re not renting a car) from Naples or Rome, or an overnighter in a small town.
